If I keep up this pace...

"And if home is really where the heart is then we're the smartest kids I know because where ever we are in this great big world we'll never be more than a few hours from home. And that's important because I need to travel. I've had this itching in my shoes since I was just a little kid and before I had a minivan I rode the Greyhound bus and my mom would say "I hope someday you get paid for being Kimya Dawson."' -My Rollercoaster, By: Kimya Dawson

It began with one of my brilliant ideas. I needed to get on my bike, somewhere warm, and out of Ogden. I was itching for a break. Jaymee hadn't been to St. George or Zion National Park. Those were plenty of reasons for us to put together a weekend trip to Southern Utah.

Unable to sneak out of the office until 3pm on Friday, the goal was to get beyond Provo before making any stops, in an effort to beat "rush hour" traffic. The first town beyond Provo is Springville. I looked up directions to all of the stores we needed to visit in order to procure our provisions for the weekend. Once in Springville, while searching for one such store we stumbled upon Kranky Franks. It wil forever be a favorite and a road trip staple for us.

Being Kranky with our Franks. Soooo good!

We visited Zion National Park with our newly purchased "Annual Pass". Our intention was to hike Angel's Landing. We began under giant snow-covered monoliths. But even the snow didn't hinder our fun.And still, the signage surrounded by snow didn't inspire us to turn around at Scout's Lookout.Neither did the icecicles as we proceeded up the trail in the snow.It wasn't until this part...where there were no walls protecting us and the steep incline was covered in snow that we decided to turn back. Yes, we were sad when we realized that we had to choose between life or risk.

After our hike and a hot shower we met up with the Linford sisters and found good Mexican Food in St. George.

When I opened my menu I was greeted by some salsa, yuk.Jaymee liked the curly q's on the straws. Sunday was another full day of fun. We started off by a drive up to Snow Canyon. We discovered this round-a-bout and Jaymee's photo loving eye spotted this beautiful (and funny) photo op with the wild mustangs.

Her next idea, though genius, scared the hell out of me. We made the 22 mile drive from Hurricane to Colorado City...THE POLYGAMY TOWN!!!
This photo is the one and only time that I got out of the car the entire time we were in the town despite Jaymee's pleas to explore the town on our bikes. I wanted to see my loved ones again...
Our adventures then took us back to Zion National Park, this time on our bikes. We passed through this quaint little town called "Virgin" on our way out to the park.
HA!!!
Getting ready for the first ride of the year...yay!!!
Jaymee pointing to the peak of Angel's Landing where we had been so close the previous day.
On our ride out of the park Jaymee had a little accident. I heard a crashing noise and "oh shit"...when I looked behind me Jaymee was laying in the ground still clipped into one of her pedals. The inevidable had happened. Her cleat had come off of her shoe and she had to ride out of the park in her regular shoes. Her ingenuity repaired the cleat the following day.
My first National Park picture of 2010. This will be the year!
After enjoying the park we rode out and stopped at Zion Noodle & Pizza Co. for dinner on the deck as the sun set. I couldn't imagine a more perfect end to a weekend of adventure, fun, and LOTS of laughing.
Cheers to a summer full of National Park adventures.
