do you know the way to san jose?

i've been singing that song to kevi multiple times a day since we've been here. she hates it. threatens to kill me in my sleep every time i sing it. but i lived long enough to make it to san francisco. thank god for that.
i've wanted to see this place since my childhood days of relentless full house episodes. in fact, when we drove across the golden gate bridge i imagined us all in a red convertible, top down and bob saget behind the wheel. i'd waited a long time for that moment.

reality was kevi and i flanking the cutest baby on earth, little allayna, in the back seat with lucy and ethel as pilot and copilot in the front. it was better than bob saget. i heard he's a dirty old man anyway...rox, i'll be adding that stand-up to my netflix queue, stat.

once in the city we had lunch at people's cafe on haight street. yeah, i went to haight street.
best day of my life so far. while eating lunch i spotted this little gem across the street:
after lunch we hit the t-shirt shop and then, of course, it was on to the piercing shop.
for me. i got my flapper pierced. i might have had a little crush on my piercing artist. he was cute.
but boy did he make me scream...and not in a good way. yeeowch.
in addition to feeling the pain of the piercing i also heard the sound of the needle going through all of the hard cartlidge in my ear. i would safely mark this my most painful body art thus far. but it's cute so it was worth it. after the piercing there was more shopping on haight street. i scored some classic t-shirts at a thrift store and a great flask with owls on it. i was the happiest girl alive. finally we ended up at a doggy boutique, of course i have to bring my baby home a gift. it's going to be a minute before he'll fit into it but when he does he'll love it.

my day ended relaxed at the hotel with a good pizza and a bottle of coke. just the way i like it.

a man named tom

thursday. it was my first day in california. i was stoked. but i couldn't have known how great it would be. we started the day off right with a bike ride. 40 mile round trip. lunch at a little place called duarte's in our destination town of pescadero. upon our return we had big plans. horseback riding on the beach. dinner. going to the cowboy surf shop. we had shit to do. well. after the 20 miles to duarte's, big hills, a beer and a shot we weren't pedaling anywhere. after several futile attempts to hitch a ride with another of the bar patrons back to half moon bay the bartender offered to take us at 5 when his shift was over. nevermind that it was noon at this point in the day. a few beers, lots of sourdough bread, and many shots of don julio later it was 5pm and our train left the station. we treated tom to dinner for his kindness. we went to a little chowder house on the ocean. sams chowder house. i had a great steak an dsome asparagus. remember all those big plans we had for our day? drunk in the afternoon and crashing at the hoted by 10 were our reality. just the way i like it.

enjoy the metabolism while you've got it...

okay, okay, okay. yes, i realize that it's been almost a month since my last post. please don't mistake my absence for anything but being the happiest i've ever been. apparently having unconditional love in your life will do that for ya...thanks Kenai. we've been on all kinds of adventures already. we walk a lot. we get up in the middle of the night to pee a lot. we poop a lot, but only in one certain spot in the yard. we practice sitting a lot. we play fetch a lot. we practice laying down a lot. we hike a lot. we cuddle a lot. we play frisbee a lot. in a nutshell, life here is good for us.

for easter weekend we went to Zion. my dog loves to camp as much as i do. we went biking. we went hiking. we slept in a tent during a thunderstorm. we went shopping. we met lots of new friends, dogs and people alike.

at this moment life was pretty much perfect for me...my pup, a good brew, and the outdoors.

saturday we did a great hike just outside of hilldale utah. yes, that's the polygamy town. the drive through town was creepy, there's no way around that. but it was worth it to get to this great slot canyon hike.

kenai did great on his first "big boy" hike. there were only a few places where the climbs were so tall that i had to lift him up. he seemed happy. i think he liked it.

this was when we got to the part of the hike where the canyon began to slot, the part i was most excited about. but this little guy was all tuckered out...and we still had the whole hike back to the car.

i decided that after a short rest this was probably an ideal place to turn around.

about half way down on the hike out of the canyon kenai found this pine cone while we were taking a water break. he carried it at least half a mile. i figured if he liked it enough to carry it that far i should let him bring it home.

even the drive home was fun and i got a lot of laughs from hanging out with this little guy. i love him. thanks for being the perfect travel partner, kenai.
