I am living for today, not someday. This lesson I gained from you.
In a photo of your smiling face I'm reminded of your love for people, your faith in humanity, and your joy for life.
My aim is to honor your memory and I am compelled to work to that end.
I long to hear your voice, your laugh. To converse, have a beer, laugh. Never a shortage of laughter in your presence.
Little Red Riding Hood is one short week away. Until now I was selfishly worried about my abilities to complete the ride...thoughts have shifted, focus has changed. Today I remembered why I am riding. Not because friends are riding, not because I needed the 100 mile challenge, not because I wanted the t-shirt, definitely not because I was dating a bike shop boy when I registered, not because I like organized rides, and not even because I thought it would be a cool thing to do. I am riding for Kara, in her memory, in her honor. I'm contributing to other women faced with the atrocious battle Kara fought. Kara would want that, she helped others and it could be said THAT was her legacy...contributing to others.

Serious Fun Happening Here People
Good friends will always be good friends and will always have fun. This weekend was spent with out of towners that I don't get to see nearly enough (I'm still negotiating the Colorado trip guys). And there was fun, fun that cannot be told on these pages or in any stories...you just wouldn't get it.
We made fun of Lynn a little bit...remember Lynn, it's because we love you.
I tried to capture my food baby on camera, Julie and Craig were right...not possible.
We raced cows on the Wii.
Lynn really got into it, maybe that's why she kept winning.
Hahaha, Julie and Craig "bumping their food babies". I loved this.
I learned early on that alcohol can drown the sour taste of health in fruits and vegatables so I thought I'd add some rum to the Strawberry Shortcake to get rid of the strawberry taste.
In Utah it is necessary to put this sticker on beer higher than a 3.2% alcohol content...really? Come on people. Is Utah the only place they have to do this?
We went to Jeremiah's for breakfast Sunday morning...OH SO GOOD! John, going to breakfast here is a must when you get back to Utah!

Julie and Craig, thanks for the fun and thanks for coming to stay with me. I'm so glad we had an extra day to play.

Last night...
I had a realization of what a kick ass life I live! The past several months have been spent in happiness and at times even ecstatic bliss as I've found beauty and enjoyment in almost everything. Over a month ago winter went away and transitions were made into spring and summer...I've wanted winter back. Still happy but missing the laughter of skiing, those I love, my BFF, the boy, the parties, the fun.
After work last night I decided to go for a road ride. After all, I had slept all evening the night before, I needed to work on my tan, and burn all the calories I had eaten while sitting at my desk yesterday...this could kill all of those "birds" with one stone. Not far from home and en route to the Ogden River Pathway I saw Amanda and her sister Catherine on their bikes. I joined them for the short ride to their house and then stopped for a popsicle...thanks you two! I left, elated that I had randomly encountered two people that I sincerely enjoy spending time with. I hopped on the bike path at Bingham's and headed west. Just after getting on the bike path I saw a long-haired dude approaching, closer, closer, TYBURSKY! It was good to see his smile and a grand reminder that I have friends here. When I got out to the 21st street pond I ran into (almost literally) Nick Parson who was practicing with his friend Tom. Nick is a pro water skier who skis for Goode Ski Technologies. He invited me to ride along in the boat with them....duh. Riding around with two hot water skiers in a ski boat, that's a no brainer. Nevermind that I was in spandex and a tank top with my amazingly discusting farmer tan, hahaha. It was as I was riding in the boat that I came to said realization, I live a good life!

Remember: Life is Funny!
Today: I rode my bike to work in the rain.
Yesterday: I dropped a full Nalgene bottle with an open cap in my lap.
Monday: I rode hard to the plasma center after work, my blood pressure was too high for me to donate when I arrived.
Sunday: "You went for a hike, take me for a hike, I love you, *muah*"
Saturday: I found out that organic chocolate milk makes me more ill than regular chocolate milk.
Friday: I was attacked by a mother bird as I rode my bike. I think she felt defensive and afraid that someone may notice her poor mothering skills as her teeny tiny baby screamed out to her for help from below the curb he couldn't jump (or climb or fly) onto. Maybe she's like that one lady with too many babies and she couldn't keep track of him and herd the others at once. Regardless, I was not happy to have her flying into me as if it were my fault her infant was in the road and scared...although I did have to stop less than half a block down the road to laugh hysterically at what had just happened.

Just can't figure it out...
We all know that Brooke and the sun have never really gotten along well...you would think that after this I would have learned, after all it was only one short year ago and I remember the agony very vividly.
Saturday I rode, I rode 70 miles. Departing from Ogden at 8am and traveling to Draper and arriving around 2pm. Knowing I would spend many hours on the road I took all the necessary precautions, the kind that would make mommy proud...plenty of sunscreen on the legs and arms before departure, a good breakfast, lots of carbs the night before, special suncreen for the sensitive face, lots of water, protein bars, goldfish, and stopping every 90 minutes to reapply suncreen to the legs and arms.
Ah.....I forgot the back:

A Girl and A Dog
After work tonight Georgia and I went for a two hour hike up the Taylor Canyon Trail. I love this dog!
While trying to get a pre-hike photo of the two of us Georgia felt the need to show her love for me.
Ah, this time without the tongue.
Who knew?!?! There are cacti in them hills!
I was pleasantly surprised at the lush and greenery of the trails. It was beautiful and reminded me of being back in the midwest.
This is from the trail looking down on 29th street. My house is on the corner of 29th and Fillmore. In the picture that is a block down from where the median ends.
Georgia is such a pretty girl. I had a great time hiking with her today, she's a good companion.

Swine Flu, An Upset Tummy, and what to do....
I came home to a roommate who's not feeling well tonight...poor guy.
I ate dinner, now my belly is REALLY angry and it hurts.
I'm going to bed early tonight.

Landmark...and my nose
These are my peeps, my landmark peeps. I had an absolute blast with them last weekend! Kenzie, Erinn, Julia, and David...you guys totally rock and have already made an awesome contribution to my life (there will be more because we're buds now)! Thank you. Last weekend I participated in a self-improvement forum. It was AMAZING. I learned about it from my friends, Julie and Craig, who had already done it. When they told me what it was about and a bit of the methodology of it I thought, "that sounds like it will help me tremendously to get where I am going in my life." So I signed up. I could not have dreamed (even in my wildest) of the magnificent result. I don't want to sound like an info-mercial or the "too-good-to-be-true" kinda thing, but truly it was. My life has been fully transformed and I have a brand new view, perspective, and vision. LOVE IT! It was worth thousands though I only paid a couple hundred.
Sunday night before our dinner break we discussed living in this very moment....after all, that is all we really have, right? At dinner I shared with my friends that I planned to finally get that nasal piercing I've wanted for years. Luckily they had sat in the same room as me for the entire weekend and said, "What are you waiting for? Let's go do it!" So we hurried to finish our dinner and went to Big Deluxe Tattoos where Amber pierced my nose!
It didn't hurt, although I did have some trouble getting the nosebleed that it caused to stop. Luckily it stopped before we got back to our evening meeting since I sat on the front row directly in front of Angie, our forum leader. I'm glad that I finally did it, I love it.
A Visual
This one was on the back of my left heel. This came from my cycling shoe and was the reason I took my shoes off to begin with...the others resulted from walking barefoot the remaining three miles. They are all healed now and but a funny memory and some scars. That was a fun day.
